Getting Sim settled in the Underworld was no easy feat as we struggled with an emotional lion cub who kept shifting and hiding in the shadows when he didn’t want to leave the house or for us to leave him. I can understand his fear because I, too, didn’t want to leave him with fear that I won’t be able to protect him. I didn’t want to leave my son to search for an extinct species that may or may not be alive. Not knowing how long we’d be gone, I packed Sims’ belongings for a month and permitted Rhynia, Ava, and the twins access to our house, which I placed in an impenetrable force field, just in case we missed something, or Sim needed more items to help him.

Once in the Underworld, we spent the day with him to ensure he was comfortable in his new room, mainly because I couldn’t leave him just yet. Well, until I was forced to leave after we had dinner as a family one last time. We hung out in his room; that’s enormous compared to anything I grew up with, and it’s the same for Sim, as he can shift and run laps in it if he wants. Lucifer had an interior decorator come through to decorate Sims’ room from ceiling to floor with nothing but Pokémon-themed items. The bedding, wallpaper, pictures, little knickknacks, and even his furniture are all Pokémon-themed, whether they look like a Pokémon or a specific type of Pokéball.

This little boy was in heaven and excited to see it as he ran around, naming every creature and character. It made us smile, and even Lucifer, when Sim ran to him for a hug and to tell him that he’s the best grandpa ever. I have to remind him not to boast the demon of pride, ego because his ego is already huge. With all of this excitement, we decided to give him our own surprise, which was a mutual gift, and tell him that since his room was so enormous, Cerberus was allowed to hang out with him.

When I say Sims’ room is enormous, I mean it's enormous to fit a 3-story, 30-foot-tall, three-headed, furry dog that can turn around in circles and lay down without damaging the room or making it too small for Sim to move around. Now that I think about it, I did hear Lucifer tell Zorren that he was one ballroom short the other night. What the guys don’t know is that I requested that Lucifer find a room big enough for Cerberus to be in at night to protect Sim further since no one will be with him at night, and I’m worried someone might kidnap him while everyone sleeps. I remember the conversation with my son as it plays out in my head over and over again while I try to wrangle in my emotions.

“Sim, we bought you something to help you fight your fears,” I say when I pull the phone from behind my back and place it in his little hands.
